These delicious and adorable football cookies have become a game day tradition in our house.
I came up with the idea a few years ago when I wanted to make something festive, cute and quick for a Superbowl party and they were a hit! They are requested for every football viewing party we go to and I’m happy to make them because they’re so easy!
It only takes four ingredients!
1 box chocolate cake mix
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs (or two mashed bananas)
1 tub whipped cream cheese frosting (or whatever you prefer)
Mix it all together and then shape the dough into football shaped cookies on a baking sheet.
I just use my fingers. I create a ball as if I were making a typical cookie and then I press it flat (1/4th of an inch thick) and shape it into an oval with pointed tips.
^this is a horrible picture, but it’s what they look like before I throw them in the oven^
Then I cook them for 7-10 minutes at 350 degrees
and put them on a cooling rack.
After they’ve cooled I go on to frosting!
I like to make them like homemade Oreos and uses two cookies with a layer of frosting in between, You don’t have to do that if you don’t want to though. The most important part to making them look like footballs is the icing seam on the top. I just use a piping bag with a writing tip to make a line down the middle (make sure it doesn’t go all the way to the ends) and then 3 horizontal lines across.
Then you’re done! They are ooey gooey and so cute!
I’ve substituted the chocolate cake mix with gluten free chocolate cake mix for a gluten free option. Obviously it’s not as good, but it’s still yummy.
^this patch looks less fluffy because I used the bananas instead of egg^
They taste a little different with the bananas but are still really good.
GO BYU! Ranked 21 baby!!!
Have a good upcoming football weekend and tag me if you try out this recipe!
