Our precious little Grace Marie is here!
At my 38 week appointment, I had my membranes stripped. Later that evening I went and took my maternity photos then went to bed. at about 5am a painful baby kick woke me up and then seconds later my water broke! My water broke with Lila as well (even at the same spot in my bed haha). When my water breaks, it really breaks! It’s like a large water balloon pops and there’s no mistaking it for something else. I called a few of my friends to find someone to come stay at our house with Lila while we waited for my Mother-in-law to get there to watch her for the day. No one answered and I was super worried because my contractions were pretty close together. Luckily one of my awesome friends picked up and ran over to stay!
We got to the hospital around 6am and they checked me in right away. I was dilated to a 3 and having regular contractions so I did not need pitocin like I did with Lila. I got an epidural because I’m not one of those tough girls and I love them haha. Mine was awesome. I couldn’t feel any pain but could still feel pressure and my contractions and move my legs and feet. They checked me every hour and I was dilating about a centimeter an hour.
Before I knew it, it was time to push. I pushed for about 20 minutes and then she was here! There is nothing like that moment of hearing your baby cry for the first time and then seeing them for the first time! It feels like heaven is so close. Gracie had the cord wrapped around her neck and had a hard time breathing at first so I didn’t get to hold her for a few minutes but it felt like an eternity.
When the NICU team finally gave it the ok, they laid her on my chest- it’s my favorite moment ever! Being skin to skin with my babies is my favorite. We spent most of the rest of the day like that!
A few hours later Lila came to meet her little sister! I am so grateful to Cecilia for coming and taking photos of this incredible time! Lila is OBSESSED with Gracie. I love our little family of 4!
A lot of you have asked about my blood pressure since I had postpartum preeclampsia with Lila. All during my pregnancy and during the birth my blood pressure was great! It was still good after the birth too till 5 days postpartum when I started having some symptoms similar to when I had it postpartum with Lila. I have a blood pressure cuff at home, so I took my blood pressure and it was 180/100- that’s really bad. We immediately got me on the blood pressure medication we finally found to work when this happened after Lila’s birth. It took about a week to find the right dosage and I felt pretty horrible that week, but things have been good since then. I’m hoping to be off of the medication in the next few weeks!
P.S. I’m grateful to my Maskcara makeup palette for giving me a full face of gorgeous makeup in less than 10 minutes for these photos!!
