The board and batten in Gracie’s room was the my first DIY project exactly one year ago. I did completely on my own. It is what helped me realize what I was capable of and totally got me addicted to power tools. I’m excited to upgrade it and give it a little extra, unique flare!!!
This is where I started with Gracie’s bedroom:
And I transformed it to this:
I am so proud of this room- it was exactly what I envisioned and I’m so proud to say that I did it myself! But, a few months ago I was inspired by some architecture I saw and KNEW I had to transform this room once again. SO, I decided to add ARCHES!
To begin, I tore off the top board of the board & batten. Then I decided how I wanted to curve my arches with a test piece. For the arches, I used 3/4 inch MDF. MDF is really great to work with, but it’s incredibly messy. I made so many trips up and down the stairs to the garage cutting out all my arches!
I used this small piece just as a test piece, and then used longer sections of MDF and cut several arches out of one board. This saved me a LOT of time wood filling seams at the end!
Once all my arches were up, I filled and sanded the fronts, and caulked where the trim meets the wall. TIP: Use wood filler where wood meets wood, usually flat surfaces, and caulk trim meets the wall, usually angles and corners. Then, I painted them to match the original board and batten!
PS- I’ve gotten so many requests for this pink color and it’s a custom color! I mixed 25% Romance by Sherwin Williams and 75% Perfection by Valspar. To get my perfect mix, I take 3 tablespoons of Perfection and 1 tablespoon of Romance and mix. I put it in a small Tupperware container and let it dry. Once it’s dry, peal it out of the container and bring it to your hardware store and have them color match it! BUT, to save you some time, here is the formula:
This project turned out better than I could have ever pictured. I love the “extra” it adds to this room, and I’m so surprised how different the room feels already!

What do you think? Do you like the regular board & batten or the arched better?
I’m definitely Team Arched!
