DIY Bobble Lamp

I have these gorgeous lamps on our bedside tables in our master bedroom.  However, they are clear and with the window behind them they don’t offer a lot of contrast.  I found these super fun bobble lamps, but was SHOCKED when I saw the price tag.  $695?!?!  I knew I could DIY my current lamps for way less!
Here are what the current lamps look like:

See what I mean?  You can hardly see the lamps with the light coming in from the windows.  To get started, here is my inspiration:

I don’t think I could ever justify almost $700 for ONE lamp.  So I grabbed my supplies and tackled this quick DIY!

  • Lamp (style of your choice)
  • Wooden beads
  • Wood filler
  • E6000 glue
  • Sand paper (80 grit and 400 grit)
  • Super glue
  • Painters tape
  • Paint (I used White Truffle from Sherwin Williams)

Fill all the holes on your wood beads with wood filler.  When wood filler is set, take your coarse sandpaper (80 grit) and sand.  Then, sand with the 400 grit sandpaper until smooth.

Decide what pattern you want your wood beads to be.  I decided to do mine offset in each row.  Use painters tape to mark where you want your beads to go.
Put a small dot of E6000 glue on your wood bead, and place on the lamp.  Then, after placing it, remove the bead and put a small ring of super glue to help hold the wood bead on the glass until the E6000 can set.  The E6000 glue is the BEST for wood/glass combo, BUT, it takes roughly 15-20 minutes to fully set.  The super glue is the perfect combo to hold it for you until the E6000 is fully adhered to the bead and lamp!

Once all your beads are set, tape off any part of the lamp that you do not want painted.  If you are using regular paint, it is best to apply with a paint sprayer.  You could also use a can of spray paint as well if you do not have a paint sprayer.

And that’s it!  So simple, and so much cheaper!
