I LOVE the look of a Christmas Tree box instead of a skirt! It looks so homey, cozy, and unique. I had SO many questions last year about my Christmas tree box DIY so here is a step by step tutorial on how to make your own! This is such a fun and affordable DIY! I’ve included two different versions with instructions. One is a non-foldable option that is more simple to construct and a little more affordable and the second is a foldable version that takes just a little bit more time and money. Both good options!
Non-Foldable Version
Materials
3 –1x4x8 boards
2- 1x3x8 boards
Cut List:
1×4’s – 4 x 24 inches
1×4’s – 8 x 21 3/4 inches
1×3’s – 6 x 14 inches
1×3’s – 2 x 19 inches
1×3’s – 4 x 16 3/4 inches
Cost: About $30!!
STEP 1:
Create a board from four 24 inch long 1×4 boards. Wood glue and clamp them together or wood glue, pocket holes and screws if you have a pocket hole jig.
 STEP 2:
Add trim. Attach 14 inch 1×3’s to the front of the 1×4’s with wood glue and 1 1/4 inch brad nails
STEP 3:
Add trim. Attach 19 inch 1×3’s to the front of the 1×4’s with wood glue and 1 1/4 inch brad nails to create a frame. Set this piece aside.
STEP 4:
Use the 8 1×4 pieces you cut to 21 3/4 inches long to create two more boards. Each board made up of 4 1×4’s like in step 1.
STEP 5:
Add the 14 inches and 16 3/4 inch 1×3 pieces to the front of both boards using wood glue and brad nails.
At this point, you will have 3 framed boards – One 24 inches wide and two 21 3/4 inches wide.
STEP 6:
Attach the 3 boards together using L brackets on the inside of the 3 sided box.
Step 7 : PAINT or STAIN. Paint or stain the box your favorite color!
And TA DA! That’s it!! A beautiful Christmas Tree box for only around $30!

STEP 7:
Attach the final 21 3/4 inch board (the partially framed one) to the side 14 inch 1×3’s using hinges so it folds inward.
Here it is unfolded and folded.
X Front Option
You can add a farmhouse x detail to the fronts of the boards by cutting one piece 17 1/16 inches with 45 degree angles and two pieces 8 11/16 inches and attach to the 1×4’s using wood glue and brad nails. These measurements will need to be adjusted for the side boards.
The X design is super cute and gives more of a farmhouse feel!
You could also add a detachable 4th side if your tree can be seen 360 degrees around or if you want to!
I hope these tutorials were helpful! And if you build one please tag me on social media (@huntersofhappiness) so I can see!! Yay for Christmas time!
